Disabled Veteran and World War I Veteran Deduction PDF Print E-mail

If you are a Disabled Veteran or a World War I veteran, you could qualify for this deduction.  Your Veteran status will determine the amount of the deduction. This deduction is applied to your real estate taxes and any amount remaining could be applied to personal property, mobile home and excise tax. This deduction may not be combined with the Over Age 65 deduction.

General Instructions for All Deductions
In order for these deductions to be applied to your property, you must be eligilbe to receive the deduction in the next assessment year, and the application must be completed and dated on or before December 31st, in order to be credited to the taxes paid the following year. If you own a mobile home or a manufactured home the application must be filed on or before March 1st in order to be credited to the taxes paid the following year.

The Auditor's Office is located in the City-County Building, I E. Main Street, Room 102.  The office is open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.  You can reach a customer service representative by calling (260) 449-7241. 

Deduction Application and Certificate of Eligibility 
While this deduction may be applied for at our office, the deduction application may be downloaded below, printed and completed; then submitted to our office in person, by mail, or fax at the Contact Information noted on the left hand side of this page. Along with this form, you will also need to provide written evidence of disability as shown in Section I of the application.

If you do not have your written evidence of disability, you may obtain the Certificate of Eligibility by clicking on the link below.  Once the Certificate of Eligibility is completed it needs to be sent to the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs whose contact information can be found in the upper right hand corner of the Certificate.  As you will see on the Certificate of Eligibility, the Allen County Auditor's office address has already been entered to ensure that the Certificate gets sent back to our office and can be matched with the Deduction Application.

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to only send the Certificate of Eligibility to the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.  The Deduction Application needs to be sent to the Allen County Auditor's office, not the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
