Travel Advisory System

The Travel Advisory System was adopted locally from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Local Travel Advisory System.

This system consists of 3 levels:

the lowest level of local travel advisory; routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas

conditions are threatening to the safety of the public; only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended; emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations

the highest level of local travel advisory; travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only; individuals are directed to:

  • refrain from all travel
  • comply with necessary emergency measures
  • cooperate with public officials in executing emergency operations plans
  • obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers

With the declaration of a Warning Travel Advisory, the Commissioners may restrict travel to emergency management workers. Further, all county offices other than those of emergency personnel or 24-hour operations will be closed.

Persons violating restrictions during a Warning Travel Advisory shall be subject to being charged with a Class B misdemeanor in accordance with I.C. 10-14-3-34.
