The Red Cross said it needed the help of Allen County and City of Fort Wayne employees. And even on short notice, those workers did not disappoint. At an emergency blood drive held today at the City-County Building, 43 productive units of blood were collected to help the Red Cross replenish its dwindling blood supply. 55 employees presented to donate during the event. The Red Cross called the Allen County Commissioners' office late Thursday afternoon, asking if the emergency drive could be held today. It was originally scheduled to run from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. But response was so overwhelming, the drive didn't finish until after 5 p.m. "You can't say enough about the employees who work for the county and the city," said Mike Green, public information officer for Allen County. "Even though they had little notice, they gladly showed up to help out their community and the Red Cross." |
