Allen County residents now have the opportunity to take advantage of a new rural public transportation service called Countilink, which was unveiled at a news conference today.

The new service, available to all ages, will be provided in areas of the county where Citilink does not provide bus or van service.  Countilink will also complement the in-city services provided by Citilink.  There is a $3 one-way fee per person.  Parents with young children requiring child restraint seats must provide those seats.  The Countilink vehicles are wheelchair accessible.

The Allen County Council on Aging partnered with the Board of Commissioners to obtain federal funding and offer this service.  "Enhancing transportation opportunities for a rural community can improve economic growth and community development that will ensure quality of life for residents in rural environments," said Commissioner Linda Bloom.  "Reliable transportation is critical to helping rural communities and community members remain healthy and productive."

"Its nice to see this project come to reality because we have been working on it for so long," added Ranelle Melton, Executive Director of the Council on Aging.  "It is a great partnership between government and the public sector."
