To help all residents of Allen County stay up to date with the latest information from local and state officials on the recent flu outbreak, the "allencountyinfo" Twitter site will be passing along any new messages provided by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department. In addition, the County will be "retweeting" information from the Indiana State Department of Health and the Indiana Homeland Security Department.
"This is exactly the kind of situation we envisioned using Twitter for," said Mike Green, the County's Public Information Director. "Those who follow "allencountyinfo" on Twitter will immediately be notified of any changes or updates regarding the flu outbreak on both a local and statewide basis." Started in March of 2006, Twitter has grown into a real-time short messaging service that works via mobile texting, instant message, or the web. Twitter accounts are free and can be set up by going to www.twitter.com. Once an account is established, you can choose to follow allencountyinfo to receive updates on information that's posted on the County's website (www.allencounty.us) plus information regarding emergencies and road closings. To date, the County's Twitter site has nearly 200 followers. |
