Employees of Allen County and the City of Fort Wayne today rolled up their sleeves and made this summer's Red Cross Blood Drive at the City-County Building another big success.

According to the Red Cross, 66 people showed up to participate, surpassing the original scheduling goal of 65.  The Red Cross was able to collect 60 productive units of blood from those who were able to donate, beating the original goal of 50 units.  The blood collected has the potential of saving as many as 180 lives.

This was the ninth year for the summer blood drive, sponsored by the Allen County Commissioners and the City of Fort Wayne.  Beginning in 2010, the city and county will sponsor a second yearly blood drive to take place during the winter.  The first winter blood drive is scheduled for January 12.
