Commissioners Respond to Mayor’s Co-location Proposal PDF Print E-mail

The Allen County Board of Commissioners sent a letter to Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry today reiterating its desire to keep City and County administrative offices in the City-County Building should the City move ahead with plans to purchase the Renaissance Square building.

The Commissioners' letter was a response to a proposed Memorandum of Understanding on co-location issues sent by the Mayor on August 4.

In their letter, the Board of Commissioners also repeated two tenets which were included in its original space utilization proposal of July 14.  The Commissioners advocate a joint ownership arrangement involving the City-County and Renaissance buildings, with equity exchange in buildings once the City purchases Renaissance.  They also propose using the Renaissance Building to house Fort Wayne's public safety agencies along with those segments of the Allen County Sheriff's Department currently housed in the Kidder Building on Lima Road.

"Please understand that we acknowledge the City's need for additional space and are not proposing anything that should stand in the way of your purchase of Renaissance Building," the Commissioners said in their letter.  "Our proposal is simply meant to comply with your previous edict that any County proposals not leave the City in a worse financial position then if you had purchased the Renaissance Building on your own."

The Commissioners concluded their letter by inviting Mayor Henry to meet with them in person to finalize any outstanding issues involving building and space utilization plans.

"We believe the goals of the City and County can be accomplished while meeting our mutual objectives and at the same time providing the maximum benefit to the taxpayers of Fort Wayne and Allen County," the Commissioners wrote.
