The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health announced the schedule of H1N1 flu vaccine clinics for the remainder of the week.
The health department continues to reserve the H1N1 vaccine for people most at risk for serious flu complications, including pregnant women, people who live with or care for infants less than 6 months of age, children and young adults, and healthcare and emergency medical services personnel. More shipments of the H1N1 vaccine arrived this week, and the priority groups eligible for it will expand soon. “Given our limited supply, we continue to concentrate on vaccinating those children and adults most at risk of complications,” said Allen County Health Commissioner Dr. Deborah McMahan. “But as we get more vaccine, we will start to make it available to other members of the community.” More than 10,500 people have been vaccinated for H1N1 flu since the clinic opened on Oct. 9. The vaccine is free. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Anyone experiencing symptoms of influenza should stay home and contact a health care provider. People can also limit the spread of flu by covering their cough and washing their hands. For more information, go to www.FightTheFlu.org or call 2-1-1. |
