Tony Burrus, director of the Allen Co. Solid Waste Management District, presents Becky Katz of Homestead High School with the 1st place award in the District's Recycling Video Contest

The Allen County Solid Waste Management District today announced the winners of its Recycling Video Contest during a news conference at the City-County Building.

The first prize winner was Becky Katz of Homestead High School for her video titled "Recycling Animation."  Becky received a Dell "netbook" courtesy of Best Buy.  The second prize winner was Rachel Gruss of St. John the Baptist School in New Haven for her video titled "Recycle."  Rachel received an Apple iPod 16GB MP3 Player courtesy of National Serv-all.  The winners were chosen by a panel of judges selected by the district.  All participants were awarded plaques for participation.

The purpose of the contest was to promote recycling while involving Allen County students in grades six through 12.  Students were encouraged to produce a 30-second video that would help spread the word about the importance of recycling in our community.  The videos were then posted to the district’s YouTube channel for public viewing.  Videos can be viewed at www.youtube.com/acswmd1.  Selected videos will be used for educational purposes including Internet sites, conferences and events, television, and other media outlets.
