Allen County Human Resources will host a free audio conference on how the Americans with Disabilities Act (the ADA) is applied to Day Care and After School Programs. The free audio conference will be held on Tuesday, August 17th from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. at City-County Building, Room 350, located at 1 E. Main Street in Fort Wayne. Parents of children with disabilities are often faced with limited choices when it comes to locating appropriate after school and day care programs to meet the needs of their children. Day care and after school providers can be reluctant to accept children with disabilities into their programs based on the fear that they are not able to provide the child with the services that they need, or that they don't have the "specialized" staff that may be needed, or just unfounded fears that the cost of serving a child with a disability is too great. The guest speaker, Dr. Ruth A. Wolery, will provide best practices and resources for parents and providers. The Indiana ADA Audio Conference program is sponsored by ADA-Indiana, DBTAC: Great Lakes ADA Center, and the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities.
