Christine Giant (left), teacher at Snider High School, received the Director's Award from Allen Co. Solid Waste Mgt. District Director Tony Burrus during the District's Excellence in Recycling Awards Luncheon on Aug. 18. The Allen County Solid Waste Management District honored businesses and organizations for their recycling efforts during its annual Excellence in Recycling Awards Luncheon held August 18 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The recipient of this year's Director’s Award for Community Leadership was Christine Giant, a teacher at Snider High School. Giant was recognized for her continuing effort to teach responsibility and engrain an environmental conscious lifestyle among students and staff. The University of St. Francis and Navistar Corporation were named recipients of the District's "3R Award." They received special recognition for their efforts to reduce the amount of solid waste generated, reusing resources and implementing recycling programs. Receiving Partnership Awards for supporting the District’s special recycling programs were Batteries Plus, Hires Automotive Center, Navistar, Citilink, Omnisource Corporation, the City of New Haven, Sears, Connolly’s Do-it-Best Hardware Stores, WANE-TV, Science Central, Sam's Club, Kroger and Scott's, Grabill Hardware, Umber's Hardware and the Allen County Public Library. Chosen as Honor Roll Award winners for providing recycling services to Allen County and serving as leaders in the waste industry were Liberty Tire Recycling, National Serv-All, Safety Kleen, Serv-All Recycling and Waste Management of Fort Wayne. |
