It is the responsibility of the Property Tax Division of the Auditor's Office to handle all matters pertaining to property taxation, exemptions and more.

Responsibilities of the Property Tax Division:

  • Settlement and distribution of property tax collections
  • Excise tax allocation and distribution
  • Obtains and publishes tax rates from the Department of Local Government Finance
  • Prepares Abstract of all taxable property and taxes due
  • Accepts and posts applications for exemptions
  • Produces and maintains Tax Sale and Certified to Commissioner properties
  • Notifies taxpayers of surplus and administers refund when proper documentation is provided
  • Creates bills for Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) in accordance with the City of Fort Wayne, Allen County Department of Planning Services, and other designated certification bodies
  • Distributes buggy plates for township trustees
  • Verifies property ownership of taxpayers on Bond Petitions
  • Ensures accuracy of property ownership
  • Maintains plat maps for 19 townships ensuring proper street names, subdivisions, splits, and combinations
  • Changes mailing addresses with affidavits
