At its August 28 Excellence in Recycling Awards luncheon, the Allen County Solid Waste Management District honored General Motors Assembly Plant, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Indiana, Three Rivers Federal Credit Union and Mustard Seed Furniture Bank for their outstanding leadership in waste reduction and recycling.
Three Rivers, GM and Goodwill were the district's 2013 "3R Award Winners" for reducing, reusing and recycling. Mustard Seed received the Director's Award for its work.
This is the 21st year for the District to recognize area industries, businesses and non-profit organizations in Allen County.
Keynote speaker Scott Glaze, local entrepreneur, shared his history, challenges and successes in implementing sustainable practices in his business endeavors, specifically highlighting Fort Wayne Metals and JK O'Donnell's Irish Pub. Glaze cited the recognition of the "value everything" approach in waste reduction and sustainability initiatives.
"The Allen County Solid Waste District initiated the annual awards to encourage and recognize businesses for their leadership in waste reduction and recycling," explained Tony Burrus, District Director. "We applaud this year's winners and invite all Allen County businesses to tap our experience for free assistance reviewing how they might improve their company's waste reduction practices."
